About Us

Algiplex is an independent startup founded by Georgina Whichello (doctoral researcher in chemistry) and Dr Cherilyn Lee (postdoctoral researcher in biology). Together, we developed multiple prototype ecosystems for boosting microalgae production. Together, we have created multiple prototype ecosystems for boosting microalgae production. Our team is passionate about eco-friendly science and are driven to improve the adoption of carbon-negative algal products by significantly lowering production costs.

Our Team

Cherilyn joined Georgina to form Algiplex, bringing technical expertise and motivation. Together, they have increased the biomass yields produced with synthetic ecosystems from an initial 2.18x up to 5.3x. Now they are working to transition this invention from bench to business.

Together, they are looking to revolutionize the algae farming industry by providing novel, eco-friendly solutions to boost biomass productivity.

Support and Recognition

Algiplex is supported by the Oxford Seed Fund (OSF), which backs high-potential ventures emerging from the Oxfordshire ecosystem, and we are proud Fellows of the 5050 UK program (Fifty Years), a mission-driven venture fund supporting founders tackling the world’s most urgent problems.

This backing reflects both the scientific strength of our approach and the global importance of building resilient, sustainable algae systems.
